My friend Gabe and I discussed the car industry including strikes, Tesla, and electric vehicles.
At the time Gabe aka Fuhat and I recorded this video, the Big 3 American auto manufacturers were on strike which we discussed. These included General Motors, Ford Motor Company, and Stellantis (formerly Chrysler) at the assembly plants in Michigan, Missouri and Ohio.
We talked about some of the adventures of Elon Musk and Tesla, including how the average Tesla worker may get stock compensation but may have lower pay compared to unionized workers.
Gabe mentioned how the current American electric grid can’t handle more electric vehicle (EV) home-charging yet.
We also mentioned how Lithia Motors owns several dealerships and is a publicly traded company. I discussed this company with another friend in another video you can watch here.
We also discussed Toyota and how they’ve been focused more on hybrid but are potentially looking to produce more EVs.
Although EVs offer much promise, there are some resource concerns with regard to making batteries for electric vehicles.
Also, it’s not certain how long EV batteries will last and how that will affect the resale value of used EVs. Right now many people hold onto their gas cars for more than 10 years, so it will be interesting to see if EVs can provide more a compelling long-term value proposition.
I mentioned how some superinvestors are investing in Stellantis, which is intriguing to try to figure out why STLA has appeal with investors Greg Alexander, Michael Burry, and Bill Miller.
It was really kind of Gabe to share his insights with me, so thank you my friend!
